INTERNATIONAL RED CROSSS

Red Cross is an international humanitarian aid organization. Currently "Red Cross" is the common name is known by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, also called the International Red Cross
Henri Dunant while engaged in business in Algeria, he traveled to northern Italy near Solferino (Italy), the same day that there faced the armies of Austria, France and Piedmont. At dusk, the scene of the Battle of Solferino, on June 24, 1859, 40,000 men lay virtually abandoned to their fate.
Dunant saw the wounded died without assistance and, aided by people from nearby towns, began to rescue them, convinced the local population to attend to the wounded, without regard for which side of the conflict were, using the slogan "Tutti fratelli "(All Brothers) coined by the women of the nearby town of Castiglione della Stiviere
Was impressed. Philanthropist, educated and enterprising, the memory led him to devise ways to overcome similar situations, and three years later published his reflections. In a book called "A Memory of Solferino, Dunant raises the germinal idea of what will be the future of the Red Cross societies. He wrote, quote, "whose purpose is to care for the wounded in wartime by enthusiastic volunteers and dedicated, well qualified for their work"
From the outset, Dunant societies conceived as neutral entities, ready to provide humanitarian aid to those in need, regardless of race, nationality or beliefs.
His idea was picked up four members of the Geneva Society for Public Utility, with him, pushed the project through the formal establishment in 1863 of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Virgen de la chinita

he month of November is of special significance to the people of Zulia, because for the same are held celebrations in honor of the Virgen de la Chinita or Chiquinquirá. It is for this reason that these days, the bagpipe sounds with particular frenzy and joy throughout the Zulia. Of the many celebrations in honor of the Virgin, perhaps the most impressive is the so-called Sunrise Piper, in which the people of Maracaibo gather at dawn on day 18 in the plaza of the Basilica, to sing to the Mañanitas and Chinita Happy Birthday.
According to the tradition of Zulia, Maracaibo La Chinita reached the waves of the lake. The story goes that one day in 1749, just a simple woman washing clothes on the shores of Lake Maracaibo, when suddenly he saw floating a thin wooden board, which picked up thinking it might be useful to hide the jar of water that was in the corridor of his house. The next morning, when I was brewing coffee, she heard a pounding like someone was calling.

He went to see what was happening and was overwhelmed with amazement at the glowing planchette and it appeared the image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá. For this reason, the woman began to cry miracle! Miracle!, So hence the name of the current Miracle on Lake Avenue, where she was the washerwoman's house. After what happened, many people came to witness the prodigy, becoming the home for this humble woman in a place of veneration of the Virgin by many believers.
At the time of the events at the home of the humble washerwoman, Maracaibo authorities decided to hold a procession in honor of the Chinita. Legend has it that the Virgin was carried on the shoulders of two men chosen by the Governor, when turnin g a corner, the image became so heavy it impossible to continue moving. Finally, after many prayers to heaven and prayers to the Virgin, one of those present said: "Perhaps the Virgin did not want to go to the Mother Church and prefer the San Juan de Dios."
According to popular tradition, these words were taken as a divine inspiration, as the procession changed its course towards the church of the poor people of Maracaibo and the image recovered his normal weight. This is why from that day, Our Lady of Chiquinquira, dear Chinita protects from his temple, basilica today, the people of  Zulia.
